Our achievement ceremonies highlight the academic accomplishments of students by allowing them an opportunity to celebrate with family and friends. Each on is a unique cultural celebration that recognizes students of color by acknowledging their lived experiences, achievements, and contributions at Tulane University.
These achievement ceremonies do not take the place of the University Commencement ceremony. As part of the celebration, all graduates are honored with a cultural stole.
Umoja Graduation
Since the Spring of 2018, The Office of Multicultural Affairs has worked with Black student organizations to host an cultural annual achievement ceremony highlighting the accomplishments of students who identify as Black. We also use this time to introduce graduating students to the Black Alumni Network of Tulane University (BANTU). Each student receives a stole and is donned with that stole by OMA staff. Information is sent to all eligible graduating students, both graduate and undergraduate in the middle of each spring semester.

"Ride the Wave" Grad Week
The Carolyn Barber Pierre Center for Intercultural Life hosts “Ride The Wave: CIL Grad Week” during the last week of classes! Throughout the week we are offering a space for celebration and commemoration of the achievements of BIPOC and QT graduates. We encourage students to drop in, reminisce on your time at Tulane, design your TU grad gear, pick up swag, eat, drink, and fellowship with us.
