The Peer Mentor Program is a student-led, peer-advisor program that provides support for interested first- year and transfer students at Tulane University. Mentors are upper-class students assigned to assist first-year students’ transition to college. The commitment is one academic year. The Program stimulates discussion of issues that affect people of all backgrounds, cultivates student leadership, builds a stronger, more diverse community, and encourages students to participate fully in the campus life. Our major goal is to increase the success and retention rates of first-year Tulane students.
The Ambassadors program is designed to help students explore the benefits of integrating academic excellence, professional development, and intercultural competence into their lives. They serve as the blueprint for thriving in an inclusive environment on the Tulane University campus. Each Ambassador demonstrates their holistic development through advocacy and practical service, to blaze a path for future Tulanians seeking a similar experience. By integrating academic interests and a commitment to social justice and inclusion, ambassadors will design programs and projects to engage with current students, faculty, staff, alumni and members of the New Orleans community. There are six different Ambassador positions available ranging from Marketing and Communication to Advocacy, Mentoring and Engagement.
The Community Engagement Advocates are student leaders trained to facilitate dialogues around issues of diversity, equity and inclusion. These interactive workshops are designed to create brave spaces for students to explore a wide range of topics race, class, gender, sexuality, able-ism, religion, and community engagement. The CEA program works to foster a campus culture of inclusion, equity and empathy, to prepare students to navigate some of society’s most pressing challenges related to diversity, equity and inclusion.
The Office of Multicultural Affairs Graduate assistantship is open to full time graduate students enrolled at Tulane University. This individual provides programmatic support for initiatives sponsored by The Center with the goal of enhancing the experiences of students of color and LGBTQIA+ students on campus. The assistantship is a ten month appointment and requires twenty hours serving The Center each week.
